MHHV Announces New Events for 2013

Military History and Heritage Inc. has announced a major exhibition and two conferences to coincide with Military History and Heritage Week ® in April 2013.
MHHV President Colonel Marcus Fielding said “We are pleased to continue our quality offering of events into April 2013.  As well, planning is already underway for a further series of events to coincide with the weeks around Remembrance Day in November 2013, details of which will be released next year.  Registrations are now open for the events next April.”

New events for 2013 kick off with a major exhibition with MHHV supporter the Royal Historical Society of Victoria (RHSV), which will run from 18 February to 1 May 2013 at the RHSV in A’Beckett Street, Melbourne.

Fear God and Honour the King: HMAS Melbourne 1912-1928
will commemorate the centenary of the arrival of Australia’s first light cruiser into Port Phillip Bay. The official opening and launch of a new history of HMAS Melbourne (I) will be held on the anniversary of that arrival, 26 March 2013.  The exhibition will feature relics and artefacts from HMAS Melbourne from the Australian War Memorial, not seen in public since 1928.

The one-day conference Choppers: Helicopters and the Vietnam War, will be held at the National Vietnam Veterans Museum on Phillip Island, Victoria, on Saturday 20 April 2013. The conference will be held within the NVVM, and will feature speakers ranging from former pilots, MIA recovery, passengers, air and ground crew as well as commanders. Keynote speaker is Air Vice Marshal Bob Treloar AO (RAAF Rtd), a former gunship and slick pilot veteran.

The conference will be followed by a mixed Museum/Conference Dinner in the Museum, under the wings of a Canberra bomber and catered for by local gourmet Spice Island. Live entertainment and an engaging dinner speaker will round off a great night.

MHHV member the NVVM will then hold an Activities Day for the public on Sunday 21 April 2013 which will have a great range of activities of interest for individuals and families alike, from great Vietnamese and Thai food to photo opportunities in the newly arrived Huey helicopter and a lot more surprises to be announced.

Program details are available, and Registrations for these events are now open on the MHHV website www.mhhv.org.au
