By following these 7 simple steps you can research every Australian First World War Soldier.
Step 1 – Visit the “Australian War Memorial” Website at www.awm.gov.au
Step 2 – Click on the “People” tab (between “Collection” & “Visit”) near the top left of the page
Step 3 – Enter the known details of the person you are searching for. (Ex. Norman Bruhn)
Step 4 – Click on “First World War Nominal Roll” and read through the search results until you find the person you were looking for.
Basic information will be found as in the example below:
Clicking on the “First World War Embarkation Rolls” tab will provide further details
Step 5– Find their service records. Go to http://naa.gov.au/ “National Archives of Australia”
Step 6 – Enter the Service Number and last name into the search area (set to collection)
Step 7 – Click on the “View digital copy” tab and read through your newly found WW1 service record. If the record is not available “online” you can request a copy.
