Chengxin Pan - Associate Professor of International Relations at Deakin University -Topic: Chinese activity in the South China Sea.
Educated at Peking University (LL.B, LL.M) and the ANU (PhD, Political Science and IR), he has held visiting positions at the University of Melbourne, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Peking University, China Foreign Affairs University, University of Macau and Fudan University. A member of the International Studies Association, American Political Science Association, Australian Institute of International Affairs, he has been on the editorial board of Series in International Relations Classics (World Affairs Press, Beijing). He has given invited talks and presentations at Adelaide, Asialink, CityU, Durham, Fudan, HKU, Macau, Monash, PKU, Renmin, Swedish Institute of International Affairs, Sydney, Tsinghua, and UQ.
One of his main research interests is in understanding Western representations of China in general and the ‘rise of China’ in particular. On this topic, his book entitled Knowledge, Desire and Power in Global Politics: Western Representations of China’s Rise was published by Edward Elgar in 2012.
