SUMMARY:Indo-Pacific Sea Power Conference
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the 13th Royal Australian Navy Indo-Pacific Sea Power Conference\, held in conjunction with the biennial Indo Pacific 2023 International Maritime Exposition. \n \nTogether these events underpin the largest maritime event of their kind in the Southern Hemisphere. They are an opportunity for industry\, government\, defence and academia to come together to showcase the outstanding work being done and opportunities for future collaboration and knowledge sharing. Collectively the conferences and exposition offer an engaging and thought-provoking program for those with a personal and professional interest in naval and maritime affairs. \nIn 2023 the Indo-Pacific Sea Power Conference will explore the theme “Fleet 2035: Sea Power and the Future of Maritime Warfare.” This theme encourages critical thinking about the role of sea power now and into the future. The conference will reflect the importance of the maritime domain and the role of the Royal Australian Navy to contribute to Australian diplomacy\, deter the use of force and defend Australia and its interest if necessary. \nWednesday\, 8 November 2023\n\n\n\n0800-0830\nKeynote: VADM Mark Hammond AO\, RAN\, Chief of Navy (AUS)\n\n\n0830-0900\nPresentation: The Economic Wellbeing of Maritime Nations Why Maritime Trade Matters\nDr Bruce Jones (The Brookings Institution)\n\n\n0900-1000\nPanel Discussion: Elements of Australian Sea Power\nChair: RADM Justin Jones CSC\, RAN\, Commander Maritime Border Command (AUS)\nParticipants: Dr Natalie Klein (UNSW Sydney)\, Dr Richard Dunley (UNSW Canberra)\, Mr Sam Bashfield (ANU)\, Dr Euan Graham (ASPI)\n\n\n1000-1030\nBreak\n\n\n1030-1100\nPresentation: Technological Change: Is Naval Warfare Evolving?\nRADM Eva Skoog Haslum\, Chief of Navy (SWE)\n\n\n1100-1200\nPanel Discussion: Fleet 2035 – Tech Challenges for an Integrated Force in the Maritime Domain\nModerator: RADM Rachel Durbin CSC\, RAN\, Head of Navy Engineering\n(AUS Participants: AVM Cath Roberts AO\, CSC\, Commander Defence Space Command\, Ms Rachel Horne (Trusted Autonomous Systems)\, Dr Bryan Clark (Hudson Institute)\, MAJGEN Ana Duncan AM\, CSC\, Head Cyber Warfare (AUS)\n\n\n1300-1330\nNaval Diplomacy or FM Speech\nProfessor Alessio Patalano (Kings College London)\n\n\n1330-1430\nPanel Discussion: Fleet 2035 – Naval Diplomacy and Deterrence\nChair: The Honourable Kim Beazley AC (AWM)\nParticipants: Dr Bec Shrimpton (ASPI)\, Ms Jennifer Parker (ANU NSC)\, Dr Troy Lee-Brown (UWA)\, Assoc Professor Adam Lockyer (Macquarie University); USCG Rep\n\n\n1430-1500\nBreak\n\n\n1500-1530\nPresentation: Maritime Futures: The Indo-Pacific Region in 2035\nProfessor Peter Dean (USSC)\n\n\n1530-1700\nPanel Discussion: What does Fleet 2035 Look Like?\nModerator: RADM Christopher Smith AM\, CSM\, Commander Australian Fleet\nParticipants: CEMM; FRA; India; USN Senior Rep; UK; Japan; Canada\nQ&A Session\n\n\n\n
