SUMMARY:The Lost Diggers of Fromelles screening
DESCRIPTION:Join us for this compelling documentary that uncovers a thrilling detective trail across Australia and Europe as experts connect families with the fallen of Fromelles. \n \nAlmost 2000 Australian soldiers were killed in action or died of wounds at the Battle of Fromelles in July 1916. Over 90 years later\, 250 of these men were discovered in a mass burial site. \nThey were later disinterred and examined before reburial at Pheasant Wood Cemetery in Fromelles. Once unknown soldiers\, 180 of these men have now been identified by name through DNA technology\, forensic science and historical data. \nThe Lost Diggers of Fromelles uncovers just a few of these stories and offers a behind-the-scenes glimpse into how the soldiers were discovered and then connected to descendants. \nFollowing the screening\, we invite guests to attend the afternoon service commemorating the service and sacrifice of those who fought in the Battle of Fromelles. An optional\, paid lunch will be available between the screening and the service. This lunch must be pre-booked and is not available for purchase on the day. \nWarning: The Lost Diggers of Fromelles contains graphic scenes and imagery that some viewers may find distressing.
