DESCRIPTION:During the Summer Olympics\, the Sir John Monash Centre invites you to attend a presentation on Sunday 28 July 2024\, dedicated to the history of Australian Olympic athletes who served in the First World War. \n \n \nIn Australia during the First World War\, a major campaign to enlist sportsmen was fuelled by the strong belief that playing sport developed specific skills and qualities that young men could use on the battlefield. \nAs a result\, in the early months of the war\, thousands of Australians who had excelled in sports enlisted. \nDuring this seminar given by local historian\, Sylvestre Bresson\, you will discover the story of several Australian Olympians whose defining qualities of courage and tenacity were put to the test during the First World War. \nThe presentation will be given free of charge and in French on Sunday 28 July 2024 from 2.30pm.
