SUMMARY:Anzac Day Dawn Service and March
DESCRIPTION:ANZAC Day marks the anniversary of the first major action by Australian and New Zealand troops in the Great War when\, at dawn on April 25 1915\, they landed on the beaches at Gallipoli in the Dardanelles Strait. Here they fought troops of the Ottoman Empire alongside British\, French and Indian allies.\nToday ANZAC Day is the most important day of remembrance and commemoration in both New Zealand and Australia and dawn services are attended by hundreds of thousands of people across both countries. \nMembers of the public are advised to arrive at the Shrine by 5.30am if possible and to travel by public transport as parking is restricted near the Shrine on ANZAC Day. Further information on train and bus services can be found on the Metlink website. Details for Yarra Trams special early tram services can also be found there. \nFollowing the Dawn Service will be the Gunfire Breakfast\, held in the King’s Domain at the bottom of the Shrine Forecourt. Here visitors can enjoy a hot breakfast\, including coffee\, for a gold coin donation. \nThe Shrine Visitors Centre will open to visitors at 7am. The Visitors Centre includes an audio visual area and will be host to three exhibitions open to the public on ANZAC Day. \nFollowing the Dawn Service the Official Wreath Laying Service will commence at 8.15am. Officials laying wreaths\, including representatives of government\, ex service organisations and the Australia Defence Force will march up the Forecourt and enter the Shrine to lay wreaths in the Sanctuary. \nANZAC Day March commences at 9am at the corner of Swanston Street and Flinders Street. The march continues along St Kilda Road to the Shrine where all participants march up the Forecourt prior to dismissing when they reach the Shrine steps. \nThe final ceremonial activity for ANZAC Day is the Commemoration Service that follows the March. DESCRIPTION:Join war historian Jen Hawksley from the University of Wollongong\n \nto discuss aspects of her research into Australian parents who were institutionalised after losing their son(s) during the First World War and returned soldiers who were treated in hospitals for shell shock and other war-related psychological conditions. Jen will conceptualise an unprecedented national trauma at the microcosm of the individual patients\, their families and the doctors who tried to treat a generation permanently scarred by war.

DESCRIPTION:The MHSA (Vic) is pleased to present the third in the Cobby Oration series of public presentations. \nNamed after Australian WWI flying ace Wing Commander Arthur ‚ÄòHarry‚Äô Cobby\, DFC**\, the 2012 presentation will commemorate the service and leadership of one of Victoria‚Äôs greatest fighting generals of WWI. \nThe speaker will be Mr David Grierson\, former State president of Melbourne Legacy. \nMr Graeme Savige will also¬†present a¬†brief history on Lieutenant-General Stanley Savige. \nSir Stanley George Savige (1890-1954)\, army officer and founder of Legacy\, was born on 26 June 1890 at Morwell\, Victoria\, eldest of eight children of Samuel Savige\, butcher\, and his wife Ann Nora\, n√©e Walmsley\, both Victorian born.  Stan left Korumburra State School at the age of 12 to work as a blacksmith’s striker.  He subsequently held various casual jobs before being employed in a drapery. DESCRIPTION:The Victorian Naval family are commemorating the ‘Centenary of ANZAC’ by having a ‘Ball’.\nThe Naval Commemorative Ball is being held at the Etihad Stadium \, in the ‘Victory’ Room. The stadium is situated in Melbourne’s Docklands and the Ball will take place on Saturday 17th October 2015. \nThe theme of the celebrations is ‘NAVY FIRST IN LAST OUT’ 1915-2015! \nCost per person is $130\, which covers your food and drink\,(spirits excluded\, but you can purchase them separately).You’ll enjoy the great sounds of the RAN dance band\, and you can make up a table of 10 of your shipmates\, and their partners or just go individually \,or with just a few of your friends. Either way you’ll have a great time! Dress is formal and time is 18.30 for 1900. SUMMARY:Trees to Remember Them By: WWI Avenues of Honour in the Chisholm Electorate.
DESCRIPTION:In this photographic exhibition of remembrance at the Monash Federation Centre (produced by MHHV member Dr Andrew Kilsby/Cooee History & Heritage)\, World War One Avenues of  Honour in the modern Electorate of Chisholm (partly in the former Shire of Mulgrave) are considered.Three were established before the end of World War One and one after the war. The exhibition will include original images\, soldier’s stories drawn from the avenues\, images of the avenues today and exhibit original name plaques as well as provide opportunity for reflection and remembrance of the service of World War One soldiers. DESCRIPTION:The play based on the book “Under One Flag” which features forewords from Prince Harry and LCpl Johnson Beharry VC.\nWritten by Erica Myers-Davis & Neil Cole. \nThere are hundreds of theories\, books\, films and documentaries about who killed JFK\, no one knows who saved him. He was saved during the Second World War when his patrol boat was sunk by the Japanese and he and his crew were marooned on an island. This comic appreciation answers the question and in doing so highlights the role of indigenous and ethnic soldiers in the Second World War\, who have received little or no recognition. Based on the book ‚ÄòUnder One Flag: How indigenous and ethnic peoples of the Commonwealth and British Empire helped Great Britain win World War II‚Äô by Erica Myers-Davis. DESCRIPTION:We will be conducting our traditional Dawn Service again on Anzac Day\, 25th April 2018. The service will commence at 6.00 a.m. and we would ask that those attending be seated by 5.45 a.m.\nThe service will be conducted on the Memorial lawn at the front of the Camberwell RSL next to the Roll of Honour commemorating the WWI fallen diggers from the Camberwell area. \nWreaths will be laid by a number of VIP’s attending and you are welcome to lay a wreath after the official wreath laying to commemorate your family’s sacrifice in any military conflict. \nAfter the Dawn Service breakfast will be provided to all attending. No charge however we would ask that you buy an Anzac Badge\, which will be available at the breakfast.
