DESCRIPTION:The Hon Darren Chester MP\, Minister for Veterans and Defence Personnel joins the Ceremony to mark the end of the War at Gallipoli. \nFederal Minister for Veterans the Hon Darren Chester MP\, Consul-General of Republic of Turkey\, Mr Arif Eser Torun and Mr Desmond Callaghan OAM\, Vice President of the Returned Services League of Victoria\, will be guests of honour at a ceremony to mark the end of the war at Gallipoli between the ANZACs and the Turks. \nThe guns fell silent in the ANZAC Sector at Gallipoli in the early hours of the 20th of December 1915. The 104th Anniversary of this important event is to be commemorated at the Shrine of Remembrance with a wreath laying ceremony at the Sanctuary. \nTo commemorate the start of peace at Gallipoli and the end of hostilities between ANZACs and the Turks\, the Friends of Gallipoli Inc.\, a not-for profit organisation\, co-ordinated this ceremony at the Shrine of the Remembrance. This year’s “Peace@Gallipoli” ceremony will be 7th such event in Melbourne. \nYou are invited to witness this important event to mark the conclusion of hostilities and silencing of the guns at Gallipoli. DESCRIPTION:Royal United Services Institute of Victoria Lunchtime Address\nThursday 28th November 2019 at 1200 for 1230\nANZAC House \, 4 Collins St\, Melbourne \nRichard Seery is the Head of Operations for the Hunter Class Frigate program\, leading a team mobilising Manufacturing capability\, in preparation for the commencement of ship construction in 2020. This team is charged with planning and documenting the build strategy\, processes\, training and equipment required to execute the program. \nPrior to joining the Hunter program\, Richard held a variety of positions in BAE Systems Australia in Engineering\, Manufacturing and Quality. Several years as Head of Quality was preceded by working in the Williamstown Shipyard as the Production Engineering Manager during the AWD Block and LHD construction programs. \nBefore moving into Manufacturing Operations\, Richard was an engineering design technical authority on the Anti-Ship Missile Defence (ASMD) program and ANZAC class sustainment support contract. \nRichard worked for many years in automotive design and R&D for Toyota (in Japan and Australia) and for Jaguar Cars (in the United Kingdom and the United States)\, prior to joining the naval shipbuilding industry. \nRichard holds a Masters degree in Software Development from Coventry University and a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering from Trinity College\, Dublin. \nCoffee and Tea from 12.00 pm.\, sandwiches after. DESCRIPTION:The 2019 Chief of Army (CA) History Conference will be held on Thursday\, 28 November at the Australian Defence Force Academy’s Adams Auditorium. This year’s theme is ‘An Army of Influence’ and looks at our involvement in the region throughout Army’s history. \nBACKGROUND \nThe Chief of Army’s History Conference has traditionally been held annually since 1994 and has grown into one of the pre-eminent military history conferences in Australia. As it evolved\, the conference has attracted world class speakers from Australia and around the world to deliver the latest research on themes with relevance to either the history of\, or operational issues affecting\, the Australian Army. \nSPEAKERS AND THEME\nThis year’s conference theme is entitled ‘An Army of Influence: The Australian Army’s Connection with the Region. Speakers include:\nProfessor John Blaxland\, ANU\nColonel (Dr) John Connery\, Australian Army\nProfessor Peter Dean\, UWA\nProfessor David Horner\, ANU\nLieutenant Colonel (Dr) Dayton McCarthy\, Australian Army\nDr Tristan Moss\, UNSW (Canberra)\nColonel Graeme Sligo\, Australian Army\nProfessor Craig Stockings\, AWM\nSpeakers from the Papua New Guinea Defence Force and the Army of the Republic of Indonesia (TNI) to be confirmed. \nThe CA History Conference provides the opportunity for current serving personnel\, invited guests and the general public to hear world recognised experts in their fields speak on a range of historical issues and examples relevant to Army’s service. Where possible\, papers offer direct parallels with events the Australian Army has experienced\, or seek to provide an historical baseline for Army’s future planning by its next generation of leaders. The conference also provides Army with a foundation for understanding the military art as practiced by different nations through a number of conflicts. \nThe papers presented at each conference have reinforced that some problems are perennial\, and that it is better to arm oneself against repeating these mistakes by learning the lessons from the past. DESCRIPTION:The Timeline Festival is an annual re-enactment event that is held at Kryal Castle\, near Ballarat in Regional Victoria. The Festival attracts over 350 historical reenactors and merchants covering time periods from Ancient Greece through to World War Two. \nThe event is run over three days and incorporates a public event\, which is held on the Saturday and Sunday\, and includes a whole range of re-enactment activities to showcase the skills and crafts of the re-enactment community. \nFor full details of this year’s event\, please see below. \n \nThe 2019 Timeline Festival Event \nThe 2019 Timeline Festival will be held on the weekend of Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th of October 2019 at Kryal Castle\, near Ballarat in Victoria. Re-enactors are welcome to attend on Friday the 18th\, which is our traditional re-enactors only day (for registration confirmation and set up). You can keep up to date with information on the public event via Facebook\, just click the button below to get to the event page \nMembers of the public are welcome to wear their own costumes to the event and also highly encouraged to visit the Living History Village outside of the castle and mingle with the reenactors. The Living History Village (on the terraces to the right of the castle) features over 300m of living history displays. DESCRIPTION:A German-born Jew but naturalised Victorian\, leading businessman for a well-known Victorian company and Captain in the Australian Volunteer Automobile Corps\, Edwards was arrested in November 1914 and interned for nearly five years without charges\, trial or court martial or right to a defence\, before being secretly de-naturalised and forcibly deported to Germany in 1919\, along with his two Victorian-born children. Dr Kilsby graduated from RMC Duntroon and completed his PhD at ADFA@UNSW.\nHe has had careers in defence\, foreign affairs and trade\, public relations\, corporate communications\, history consulting and property management.\nHe is author of Lions of the Day\, The Bisley Boys\, In the Field and On the Field\, The Riflemen: A History of the NRAA 1888-1988\, The Forgotten Cruiser: HMAS Melbourne 1913-1928\, and has co-authored fallen leaves\, 100 Years of Sigma: Proudly Serving Since 1912\, and A Reputable Set of Men: the History of the Sandringham Club 1913-2013 – and contributed a chapter on the rifle club movement to Before the Anzac Dawn. Andrew has also convened military history conferences\, curated historical exhibitions and written numerous articles and biographies.
