DESCRIPTION:Regular and ongoing consultations are an important part of the Development Project. \n \nOur Development Project plans were launched on Monday 18 November 2019 by the Prime Minister\, the Hon. Scott Morrison MP. The project includes a new southern entrance\, refurbishment of the main building\, a new Anzac Hall connected to the main building via a glazed link\, an extension to the Bean Building\, and public realm works. \nFollowing this launch\, we will be running a series of public consultation sessions. \nYou are invited to attend a public consultation regarding the design plans for the Memorial’s Development Project. \nPresentation: 2:30 – 3:30 pm \nCommunity drop-in session: 4 – 7 pm

DESCRIPTION:Royal United Services Institute of Victoria Lunchtime Address\nThursday 28th November 2019 at 1200 for 1230\nANZAC House \, 4 Collins St\, Melbourne \nRichard Seery is the Head of Operations for the Hunter Class Frigate program\, leading a team mobilising Manufacturing capability\, in preparation for the commencement of ship construction in 2020. This team is charged with planning and documenting the build strategy\, processes\, training and equipment required to execute the program. \nPrior to joining the Hunter program\, Richard held a variety of positions in BAE Systems Australia in Engineering\, Manufacturing and Quality. Several years as Head of Quality was preceded by working in the Williamstown Shipyard as the Production Engineering Manager during the AWD Block and LHD construction programs. \nBefore moving into Manufacturing Operations\, Richard was an engineering design technical authority on the Anti-Ship Missile Defence (ASMD) program and ANZAC class sustainment support contract. \nRichard worked for many years in automotive design and R&D for Toyota (in Japan and Australia) and for Jaguar Cars (in the United Kingdom and the United States)\, prior to joining the naval shipbuilding industry. \nRichard holds a Masters degree in Software Development from Coventry University and a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering from Trinity College\, Dublin. \nCoffee and Tea from 12.00 pm.\, sandwiches after. DESCRIPTION:The 2019 Chief of Army (CA) History Conference will be held on Thursday\, 28 November at the Australian Defence Force Academy’s Adams Auditorium. This year’s theme is ‘An Army of Influence’ and looks at our involvement in the region throughout Army’s history. \nBACKGROUND \nThe Chief of Army’s History Conference has traditionally been held annually since 1994 and has grown into one of the pre-eminent military history conferences in Australia. As it evolved\, the conference has attracted world class speakers from Australia and around the world to deliver the latest research on themes with relevance to either the history of\, or operational issues affecting\, the Australian Army. \nSPEAKERS AND THEME\nThis year’s conference theme is entitled ‘An Army of Influence: The Australian Army’s Connection with the Region. Speakers include:\nProfessor John Blaxland\, ANU\nColonel (Dr) John Connery\, Australian Army\nProfessor Peter Dean\, UWA\nProfessor David Horner\, ANU\nLieutenant Colonel (Dr) Dayton McCarthy\, Australian Army\nDr Tristan Moss\, UNSW (Canberra)\nColonel Graeme Sligo\, Australian Army\nProfessor Craig Stockings\, AWM\nSpeakers from the Papua New Guinea Defence Force and the Army of the Republic of Indonesia (TNI) to be confirmed. \nThe CA History Conference provides the opportunity for current serving personnel\, invited guests and the general public to hear world recognised experts in their fields speak on a range of historical issues and examples relevant to Army’s service. Where possible\, papers offer direct parallels with events the Australian Army has experienced\, or seek to provide an historical baseline for Army’s future planning by its next generation of leaders. The conference also provides Army with a foundation for understanding the military art as practiced by different nations through a number of conflicts. \nThe papers presented at each conference have reinforced that some problems are perennial\, and that it is better to arm oneself against repeating these mistakes by learning the lessons from the past. Army views this conference as an opportunity to use history to better educate and prepare its people for the challenges they may face in the future\, as well as to provide guiding principles from which to approach planning for future operational\, administrative or modernisation requirements. \nTICKETS\nDefence Personnel\, Defence APS and Invited Guests: The Australian Army History Unit invites Army members\, members of the ADF\, Defence APS and invited guests to take advantage of Defence-funded tickets to attend this year’s conference. Defence ID will be required at the conference to collect tickets.\nGeneral Public: Members of the general public are invited to purchase tickets from Eventbrite to attend the annual CA History Conference alongside serving personnel to both learn about aspects of the Australian Army’s history\, and hear about issues faced by armies the world over (albeit in an historical context). It is also extremely instructive in educating the public about how Government\, the Army and the community negotiate ambiguous and complex military outcomes\, both internally and externally. Public engagement with the conference aids in understanding and appreciating the issues facing Army\, as well as being an opportunity for all attendees to listen to the best scholars in the world present the findings of their latest research. DESCRIPTION:The Timeline Festival is an annual re-enactment event that is held at Kryal Castle\, near Ballarat in Regional Victoria. The Festival attracts over 350 historical reenactors and merchants covering time periods from Ancient Greece through to World War Two. \nThe event is run over three days and incorporates a public event\, which is held on the Saturday and Sunday\, and includes a whole range of re-enactment activities to showcase the skills and crafts of the re-enactment community. \nFor full details of this year’s event\, please see below. \n \nThe 2019 Timeline Festival Event \nThe 2019 Timeline Festival will be held on the weekend of Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th of October 2019 at Kryal Castle\, near Ballarat in Victoria. Re-enactors are welcome to attend on Friday the 18th\, which is our traditional re-enactors only day (for registration confirmation and set up). You can keep up to date with information on the public event via Facebook\, just click the button below to get to the event page \nMembers of the public are welcome to wear their own costumes to the event and also highly encouraged to visit the Living History Village outside of the castle and mingle with the reenactors. The Living History Village (on the terraces to the right of the castle) features over 300m of living history displays. DESCRIPTION:Royal United Services Institute of Victoria Lunchtime Address\nWEDNESDAY 25 September 2019 at 1200 for 1230\nANZAC House \, 4 Collins St\, Melbourne\n\nBrigadier (ret) Mike Phelps AM \nTopic: Defence Industry in Victoria and the Government plans for it’s development \nMike Phelps is currently the Manager – Defence\, Aerospace and Security\, Victorian Government \nThe Department of Economic Development\, Jobs\, Transport and Resources is the lead agency to develop the Victorian economy and grow employment. The Industry Development and Innovation Division is responsible for the support and growth of Victorian industry through the development of strategies\, policy and programs to grow jobs and facilitate investment and trade opportunities. The Manager – Defence\, Aerospace and Security Sector Development leads a small team to support the growth of Victoria’s defence\, aerospace and security industries. \nPreviously Mike was an Artillery Officer\, rising to the Rank of Brigadier when he left the military in 2013. In his latter career he had extensive experience in Army Materiel. His appointments included:\n• Director General Integrated Soldier Systems\, and\n• Director General Land Manoeuvre Systems \nCoffee and Tea from 12.00 pm.\, sandwiches after.
