DESCRIPTION:Contemporary drawings by Craig Barrett\, inspired by the works of Siegfried Sassoon and Wilfred Owen;\nBritish soldier/poets renowned for their evocative and insightful war poetry reflecting experiences on the Western Front during the First World War (1914-18). \nCraig created this exhibition\, of large scale drawings in charcoal and coloured washes\, specifically for the atmospheric surrounds of the Hall of Columns. \nHis shadowy images\, looming in the dimness\, respond to the stark and melancholy themes of the poems and the universal suffering they represent.

SUMMARY:Trees to Remember Them By: WWI Avenues of Honour in the Chisholm Electorate.
DESCRIPTION:In this photographic exhibition of remembrance at the Monash Federation Centre (produced by MHHV member Dr Andrew Kilsby/Cooee History & Heritage)\, World War One Avenues of  Honour in the modern Electorate of Chisholm (partly in the former Shire of Mulgrave) are considered.Three were established before the end of World War One and one after the war. The exhibition will include original images\, soldier’s stories drawn from the avenues\, images of the avenues today and exhibit original name plaques as well as provide opportunity for reflection and remembrance of the service of World War One soldiers. DESCRIPTION:Jim Bridges is the man behind the Australian Cartoon Museum. For the last 33 years\, he has been collecting cartoons in all their many shapes and sizes.\n He has over 5\,000\,000 cartoons in his collection. Our Social and Political History is intrinsically bound up in these sketches\, which are also time capsules of our era. \nThe National Vietnam Veterans Museum is hosting an exhibition of cartoons of the Vietnam War era\, depicting the historical and social issues of that period in Australia’s history. \nThis exhibition concentrates mostly on the soldiers’ point of view and the coping mechanism of humour\, including cartoons by Geoff Hook and William Ellis Green (WEG). \nJim will be at the Museum to launch this thought provoking Exhibition at 2pm Tuesday 1 September. DESCRIPTION:Every year\, on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month\, we pause to remember those men and women who have died or suffered in all wars and peacekeeping operations.\nThe Service: from 10.30am \nJoin us for the Victorian State Remembrance Day Ceremony\, attended by the Governor of Victoria. One minute of silence will be observed at 11am. The Royal Australian Navy Band will perform and there will be an RAAF flyover. Schools are encouraged to attend and student representatives will be invited to lay wreaths after the Governor’s address and formal wreath layings are complete. \nRay of Light: 11.50am – 12.10pm \nAll are invited to visit the Sanctuary to witness the sun pass across the Stone of Remembrance\, landing on the word ‘LOVE’ at 12 noon. Remembrance Ceremonies\, featuring a simulation of the Ray of Light\, will take place in the Sanctuary every half an hour from 12.30pm\, with the last ceremony held at 4.30pm. The Flag Ceremony and Last Post is conducted on the Shrine WWII Forecourt at 5.00pm. \nGalleries of Remembrance: 12.30pm – 7.00pm \nThe Galleries of Remembrance will be dedicated on this day\, which also marks the 80th anniversary of the dedication of the Shrine of Remembrance. As this is the highly anticipated opening of the Galleries of Remembrance\, visitors may encounter delays.
