SUMMARY:Resistance  Australians and the European Underground 1939–45
DESCRIPTION:Greece has a centuries-old tradition of armed resistance. \n \nThe Greek word for partisan is Andartes and these fighters fiercely resisted German\, Italian and Bulgarian occupation from 1941 until 1944. Rival groups then turned on each other. \n‘Resistance’ and ‘Underground’ are names used to describe the various secret organisations that arose in European states under enemy occupation during the Second World War. Many Australian servicemen and women gave aid to the Resistance\, other Australians owed their freedom and lives to it. Discover the stories of some of these individuals who\, through accident or design\, found themselves battling the enemy using unconventional means. \nVisitors are advised that this gallery contains graphic images of violence.

DESCRIPTION:The National Vietnam Veterans Museum is proud and excited to present the 4th annual Antiques Evaluation Day at the Museum on Sunday 9 June\, 2019. \nThis day will be conducted in the style of the Antiques Roadshow with a range of specialists available to provide advice\, information and estimates on items presented to them. Take this opportunity to come along and chat with professionals about your particular treasures. We encourage you to bring\, not just militaria\, but also other antiques. \nOur qualified specialists include Bronwyn Pratt (The Goldsmith’s Gallery\, San Remo); Simon Storey\,(Fine Arts\, Heritage and Cultural collections); Anne Rowland (Ballarat Arts Gallery); Stewart Dear\,(Certified Practicing Valuer\, Tyabb Packing House Antiques); Gordon Morgan\, (Military and Antique Weapons specialist). Between them our assessors have a range of knowledge on different categories including jewellery\, militaria\, antique weapons\, books\, artwork\, porcelain\, ephemera\, medals\, and coins. \nThe limit this year will be 2 items per person to avoid lengthy waiting times. If you haven’t been to the Museum before\, take some time to walk among the displays and exhibits. Don’t forget to watch the famous holographic Sound & Light Show\, which covers the causes and consequences of the Vietnam War. Department of Psychiatry | The University of Melbourne. \n \nTOPIC: PTSD and the Services \nThrough her 23-year career as a full-time Army psychology officer\, Nicole has developed considerable expertise in military mental health\, including in the issues and challenges for serving and ex-serving military personnel and their families\, and the systems and services to improve and maintain mental health and wellbeing within high risk populations. Nicole has worked in psychology service provision\, training\, research\, policy development and strategic planning\, and has deployed in support of numerous Australian Defence Force operations. She held the senior psychology position within the Australian Army from August 2012 to January 2017. Nicole continues to serve as a Colonel in the Army Reserve and she is one of the Defence investigators on the joint Departments of Veterans’ Affairs and Defence Transition and Wellbeing Research Programme.
