The Long War at Home

September 4, 2018 @ 12:00 am - 1:00 am

As part of the centenary touring exhibition, Deakin University Library invites you to a talk about the private experiences of the war among families in Victoria: ‘The long war at home,’ by Dr Bart Ziino, Senior Lecturer in Twentieth Century History. He teaches twentieth-century world history, and Australia in the two World Wars. Bart is an historian of Australian experiences of the First World War, and memory and commemoration of war in Australia and abroad. His first book, A Distant Grief: Australians, War Graves and the Great War (2007) brought to light the painful efforts of Australian families to grieve for loved ones whose bodies remained on foreign battlefields after the First World War.
The Shrine of Remembrance Trustees and Deakin University Library are pleased to invite you to attend Australia Will Be There, the centenary touring exhibition from the Shrine of Remembrance.

Drawn from major collections and from families of those who served, over 100 photos from the era serve to illustrate the stories and contributions of Victorians to the First World War, and increase our understanding of this critical time in our history.
