Roman Siegecraft: Fall of Jerusalem 70AD

A Public Lecture by Alexander Muscat

This lecture explores the dramatic and tragic events of the Roman siege of Jerusalem in 70 AD, a turning point in Jewish and Roman history. It covers the background of the First Jewish-Roman War, the leaders and factions on both sides, the weapons and siege tactics the Romans used, the internal struggles of the Zealots, the destruction of the Temple, and the lasting legacy the siege left on Judaism and the Roman Empire.

About the Speaker

Alexander Muscat is the audio-visual coordinator of The Military History Society of NSW. He holds a double degree of a Bachelor of Secondary Education/Bachelor of Arts (Humanities) from Australian Catholic University with a major in History and a minor in Studies of Religion. He is currently employed as a high school teacher in Sydney and has been working for two years. His main interest is in biblical history and the Roman Empire’s occupation of the Middle East.

The current venue for The Military History Society of New South Wales lecture program will be the Auditorium at the Anzac Memorial Hyde Park, corner of Elizabeth and Liverpool Streets, Sydney CBD. Numerous bus services stop at the location and Museum railway station is only 160 metres away. The venue will be opening its doors at 10:30AM sharp.
