Melbourne Heroines of World War One

January 1, 1970 @ 10:00 am

Susanna de Vries will tell of eight heroic army nurses, five from Melbourne. Sister Samsung’s story is only one of eight enthralling narratives which Suzanna de Vries will present. Sister Hilda Samsing witnessed the bungled evacuation of wounded Anzacs, many of whom were left lying on the beach at Anzac Cove for days in burning sun due to shortage of hospital ships; her diary was read out to the British Parliament. Susanna de Vries is a Churchill Fellow. She was awarded an OAM for services to art and literature. She is the author of fifteen books, including many biographies of Australian women. She is renowned as an engaging speaker.
