The cairn was established in 1964 and dedicated in November of that year by the Lieutenant Governor of Victoria – Lieutenant General Sir Edmund Herring. The restored cairn was re-dedicated in November 2007 by Victorian Premier and Minister for Veterans Affairs John Brumby.
