Tramway Anzacs: Exhibition LAST DAYS

January 1, 1970 @ 10:00 am

The Friends of Hawthorn Tram Depot are proud to announce ‘Tramway Anzacs’, an exhibition at the Melbourne Tram Museum @ Hawthorn Depot, honouring the 538 employees of Melbourne tramways who volunteered for active service in the First World War.
Conceived to commemorate the centenary of the landing at Anzac Cove, the exhibition is focused on the impact of the First World War on Australian society, and on the lives of the tramway men who served – the 86 who died on active service, and all those who returned.

The official opening ceremony for Tramway Anzacs will be at 3pm on Saturday 11 April 2015.

The exhibition will be mounted in the main museum gallery, and consists of multimedia displays, posters and contemporary artefacts related to Australian participation in the First World War.

To mark this special event, the Melbourne Tram Museum will be open every Saturday from the launch on 11 April 2015 until 23 May 2015.

The exhibition will be on display until 12 December 2015, our last open day for the year, and the centenary of the decision to evacuate all Allied troops from the Gallipoli Peninsula.
